The Cedar, Augsburg receive one of six national grants

A grant awarded to and Augsburg College will support a program to build cross-cultural awareness, knowledge, and understanding of Somali culture through music. One of only six grants of its type awarded in the nation, the $200,000 award was made as part of the highly competitive Building Bridges: Campus Community Engagement grant by the Association of Performing Arts Presenters funded by the and the .

The grant will be used to launch a two-year project titled MIDNIMO: MUSIC FOR UNITY, CAMPUS, AND COMMUNITY. 听Through Midnimo, the Somali word for 鈥渦nity,鈥 Augsburg students, Cedar Riverside residents, and the general public will engage in a series of educational and experiential events focused on Somali music. Augsburg graduate student is featured by The Circle, serves those in need

Lorna 鈥淓mmy鈥 Her Many Horses 鈥15 MAE was featured in an article by听The Circle.听HerMany Horses volunteers her time and resources to collect donated items and then distributes them at family centers and homeless shelters that serve the Rosebud听Sioux Tribe. She collects items from Twin Cities听acquaintances听and sees听her volunteerism as an opportunity to give back to the children and elders of the Rosebud Sioux nation, of which she is a tribal citizen. Event 1: Nobel Peace Prize Forum Keynote Address

SATURDAY, MARCH 1听|听Security Check: 7:30 a.m., Program听9:40-10:20 A.M.听|听Minneapolis Convention Center

  • Description:听His Holiness the 14th听Dalai Lama will deliver the keynote speech at the 26th Nobel Peace Prize Forum at the Minneapolis Convention Center. His Holiness, the spiritual leader of Tibetans and Buddhists worldwide, will speak on topics of faith, peace, and human values. The speech will be delivered in English. The NPPF is housed and coordinated by Augsburg College.
  • Media Advisory:听Read and print the media advisory听here.
  • Media Credentialing:听Credentialing closed on Wednesday, February 19. Only members of the media who received notice of official credential approval will be permitted entrance.听A photo ID will be required to pick up credentials. Please also wear or bring the credentials issued by your employer.听Confirmations and additional information will be emailed to editors, reporters, and photographers who receive credentials.If you do not receive a correspondence from Augsburg College by February 26 for this event, you were not approved for credentials. Credentials are not transferrable.
  • Parking:听Parking is on your own. No special accommodations were made at this venue.

Event 2: Historic Tibetan New Year/Losar

  • Description:听His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama will preside over the Tibetan New Year/Losar ceremony being held in Augsburg College’s Kennedy Center. It is the first time in the life of His Holiness, since exile, that he will observe Losar outside of India. The event is being held by the Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota. White House highlights how Augsburg, others pledge to improve college access

Augsburg was one of more than 100 colleges, foundations, and nonprofit groups that took part in a White House initiative seeking to improve college opportunity for U.S. students. Congratulations to Auggies named to Fall Semester Dean’s List

More than 750 Augsburg College undergraduate students were named to the 2013 Fall Semester Dean’s List. Students named to the list achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 scale.

Stephan Clark discusses creativity with Scientific American Mind

, assistant professor of English, was quoted in the January/February 2014 edition of Scientific American Mind, a leading source of science, technology, and policy information. In “How to Be a Better Artist,” Clark explained how travel abroad boosts creativity. Clark is the author of the forthcoming novel, Sweetness #9, and he teaches creative writing at Augsburg. online.
