The Pre-law concentration in Political Science can provide valuable聽preparation for law school and a career in the legal profession. This major provides聽training in critical and reflective thinking, analytic skills, public speaking and professional writing, research skills, and substantive knowledge of the workings of the U.S. and other legal systems.
Graduates of our department have gone on to law schools in the Twin Cities and across the nation. Some students go on to law school immediately after graduating, but many others will work for a few years first. Because of our small size, we get to know our students very well, so no matter how long聽it’s been since you graduated, you can be sure we’ll remember you and be happy to help with the process of applying to law school. In addition, because of our large number of students who have gone on to successful legal careers, there are many experienced聽lawyers聽you can turn to for聽advice, alumni who are very willing to help out the newest generation of Auggies.
Internships can also聽increase your experience with the law. Although law firms often prefer applicants who are currently enrolled in law school, there are a wide variety of other internships that can provide exposure to the legal and lawmaking process.
