Mitchell Academy of American Poets Prize<\/h2>\n<p>This competition, endowed by Jean Mitchell in honor of the late John Mitchell, former English Department faculty member and poet, is for the best group of three poems composed by a current Augsburg undergraduate or graduate student. The award includes a $100 prize ($50 each, if split between an undergrad and a grad student) and a certificate from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poets.org\/\">Academy of American Poets<\/a>. A poet not affiliated with Augsburg\u00a0University will judge the contest.<\/p>\n<p>CONDITIONS OF ENTRY<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A set of three well-proofread poems must be sent from your Augsburg email address as an<br \/>\nattachment to &#103;&#x72;&#101;&#x65;n&#x40;a&#117;&#x67;&#115;&#x62;&#117;&#x72;g&#x2e;e&#100;&#x75; by 17 February 2020.<\/li>\n<li>Writers should put Mitchell Prize in the subject line.<\/li>\n<li>The email must contain the titles of the poems, and the poet\u2019s full name, pronouns, status<br \/>\n(undergrad or grad), phone number, and mailing\/permanent address.<\/li>\n<li>Winners will be announced by º£½ÇÉçÇø in early March.<\/li>\n<li>In the summer, the Academy will send a letter of congratulations and a certificate to each winner or<br \/>\nhonorable mention recipient. If two winners are chosen, the prize money will be divided between<br \/>\nthem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The John Engman Writing Prize<\/h2>\n<p>The John Engman Writing Prize, a literary competition sponsored by Murphy Square and the Augsburg English Department, is awarded each year to promising writers. <strong>The 2016-17 submission deadline is Sunday, December 18. <\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>Judges of the competition will select winners in each of the categories of <strong>fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To enter writers must submit the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Short Fiction<\/strong> \u2013 One complete short story of not more than 15 pages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Creative Non-fiction<\/strong> \u2013 One complete piece not longer than 15 pages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Poetry<\/strong> \u2013 At least three poems.<\/p>\n<p>All writers must be enrolled at Augsburg\u00a0University and may enter each of the categories as often as they wish, but they may only win in one. Names of writers must not be on the works submitted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Submit via Moodle here<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The prize was named in honor of poet and Augsburg alumnus John Engman who died in 1996. Judges for the contest are English Department faculty members. The judges reserve the right to withhold awards if entries in specific categories are not of winning quality; they may also increase the number of awards in a category that has attracted entries of obvious merit.
