In compliance with the 鈥淭imely Notice鈥� provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 海角社区 Department of Public Safety is giving notice of a concerning incident that occurred inside Anderson Hall on the Minneapolis Campus.

REPORTED OFFENSE: 听搁辞产产别谤测

Today, 4/11/2018, DPS received a report that on Monday, April 9, 2018 around 11:30 pm, a robbery occurred inside an Anderson Hall apartment. 聽A student was attempting to sell clothing online and had the potential buyers meet at their apartment. The victim met 2 males at the North entrance to Anderson Hall and escorted them to their room. 聽When the clothing item was shown to the potential buyers they hit the victim in the head and pointed a handgun at them. The suspects then took the clothing item and ran out the North entrance of Anderson Hall. 聽The suspects then got into a dark colored 4 door sedan parked on 21st Ave S (north of 7th St) and left Northbound on 21st Ave S.

SAFETY TIPS:

When selling anything online:

  • DO NOT meet at your residence or the buyer鈥檚 residence; choose a neutral location in a public area that is well lit.
  • If possible, bring a friend with you to the sale; if not, make sure to let someone know where the meeting is taking place, when you are leaving, and when you expect to be back.

STATUS: 聽We believe this to be an isolated incident, and it remains under investigation by the Minneapolis Police Department and the Augsburg College Department of Public Safety. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to contact MPD or Augsburg DPS at 612-330-1717.

April 3: Rochester classes canceled

Due to hazardous weather and travel conditions today, April 3, 海角社区 has canceled classes at its Rochester location. Faculty are encouraged to make arrangements to meet with their students via Zoom or other methods. Students are encouraged to consult the course Moodle site for additional information and alternative coursework from their instructors.

Although classes in Rochester are canceled, Augsburg is not suspending normal operations.聽Employees should coordinate schedules and work arrangements with their supervisors as needed while ensuring everyone’s safety.

March 5 on-campus classes canceled – Minneapolis and Rochester

Due to hazardous weather and travel conditions today, March 5, 海角社区 has canceled classes that begin after 3 p.m. in its Minneapolis location and has moved scheduled Rochester classes to online. Faculty with labs that start earlier than 3 p.m. but continue past 3 p.m. are encouraged to end early. Students are encouraged to consult the course Moodle site for additional information and alternative coursework from their instructors.

Although classes are canceled, Augsburg is not suspending normal operations.聽Employees should coordinate schedules and work arrangements with their supervisors as needed while ensuring safety.

Timely Notice Bulletin: Robbery, Feb. 23, 2018

In compliance with the Timely Notice provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 海角社区 Department of Public Safety is giving notice of a concerning incident that occurred outside of the Lindell Library on the Minneapolis Campus.

REPORTED OFFENSE:聽 Robbery
On Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 at 2:10 p.m., a robbery occurred behind Lindell Library. A staff member was approached from behind and had what appeared to be a gray-colored handgun pointed at them. The suspect took the victim’s bags and asked if they had any money. When told no, the suspect ran northbound on 21st Avenue South toward Riverside Avenue.

SUSPECT (as described by victim):
Black male, 5’8″, thin build, late teens/early 20s, wearing black or navy jacket with hood, sagging blue jeans with white boxers visible

STATUS:聽 This incident remains under investigation by the Minneapolis Police Department and the 海角社区 Department of Public Safety. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to contact MPD or Augsburg DPS at 612-330-1717.

February 19: Rochester Classes Canceled

海角社区 has canceled Rochester classes today, Feb. 19, due to hazardous weather and聽travel conditions. Instructors may make arrangements to hold classes via Zoom or make alternative plans for canceled classes. Students are encouraged to contact their instructors and consult the course Moodle site for additional information and alternative coursework from their instructors.

 

 

 

 

January 23: Classes start at 9:40 a.m.; put safety first when traveling to/from campus

Early morning classes today, Tuesday, January 23, are canceled due to snow and travel conditions. The regular class schedule will resume at 9:40 a.m.

Although classes are resuming this morning, driving conditions in the Twin Cities remain challenging. Augsburg encourages students, faculty and staff to put their safety first when determining whether they will be able to travel to and from campus.

Faculty are asked to to be flexible with students who may not feel safe driving in these conditions. Students are encouraged to contact faculty members directly if special accommodations are needed. Individual聽faculty may make alternative arrangements for canceled classes. Students are encouraged to consult the course Moodle site for additional information.

Employees should coordinate schedules and work arrangements with their supervisors this morning to support operations as needed while ensuring safety and flexibility.

January 22 on-campus classes canceled; normal operations suspended – Minneapolis and Rochester

海角社区 has suspend normal operations at its Minneapolis and Rochester locations today, January 22, due to hazardous weather and travel conditions. All classes that begin after 3:30 p.m. are canceled. 聽Some instructors may make arrangements to hold classes via Zoom or make alternative plans for canceled classes. Students are encouraged to consult the course Moodle site for additional information and alternative coursework from their instructors.

While normal campus activities are suspended, essential services are maintained. Examples of essential services may include security, maintenance, residential and food service operations, and custodial services. Employees should check with their supervisors if they have questions about their schedule. Human Resources will provide information about how to code employee time.

Timely Notice – Robbery on Campus

January 21, 2018

In compliance with the 鈥淭imely Notice鈥� provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 海角社区 Department of Public Safety is giving notice of a concerning incident that occurred outside of Anderson Residence Hall on the Minneapolis Campus.

REPORTED OFFENSE: Resident student was standing near Anderson Hall entrance looking at phone. Resident was approached by two suspects who were asking for the time. After approaching and repeating the question, first suspect displayed a black semi-automatic pistol which was kept in his waistband. Suspect demanded wallet, shoulder bag and cell phone. Resident was told to remove the SIM card from the phone. Suspect reportedly disabled the GPS setting. Both suspects fled westbound toward 20th Avenue South. Additional witness reported a black Honda or Accura accelerating at a high rate of speed on 20th Avenue toward Riverside.

SUSPECTS: Descriptions as reported by victim:
Suspect #1 (displayed weapon): Somali male late teens-early 20鈥檚, thin, 130 lbs, 5-10 to 6-0, waist high black jacket with maroon hoodie underneath, appeared to be short black hair underneath hood, no facial hair
Suspect #2: Somali male late teens-early 20鈥檚, thin, 6-0 to 6-2, gray hooded sweat shirt and khaki pants

STATUS: This incident remains under investigation by the Augsburg College Department of Public Safety and the Minneapolis Police Department. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to contact DPS at 612-330-1717.

Severe Weather Awareness Week – Tornado Drill Day

For more than 20 years, the state of Minnesota has conducted a Severe Weather Awareness Week in partnership with the National Weather Service and local governments. A statewide tornado drill is part of that event.
On Thursday April 20, 2017 simulated tornado watches and warnings will be issued to test the statewide warning and communications systems. All counties in Minnesota normally participate in the first drill at 1:45 p.m. unless actual severe weather is expected.
Please consider this an opportunity to familiarize yourself with designated tornado shelter areas or safe spaces in areas that you frequent.

In an Apartment, Dorm or Condo
If you live in an apartment that is on an upper floor, get to the lowest level of the building that you can immediately. This could be an underground parking garage or a neighbor鈥檚 first floor apartment. Then move to the most interior area possible, away from windows.
If you live in a high-rise apartment building, you may not have enough time to get to a lower level, so picking a place in the hallway in the center of your building is the best idea such as a stairwell. If that is not available then a closet, bathroom or interior hall without windows is the safest spot in your apartment during a tornado. Power loss during a tornado storm is common, so avoid elevators and keep a flashlight handy.

In an Office Building, Hospital or Store
Go directly to an enclosed, windowless area in the center of the building — away from glass and on the lowest floor possible. Then, crouch down and cover your head. Interior stairwells are usually good places to take shelter, and if not crowded, allow you to get to a lower level quickly. Stay off the elevators; you could be trapped in them if the power is lost.

2017 Summer parking permit sales

Summer parking permits for 2017 will go on sale Tuesday, April 18th at 8:00am. If you have a valid 2016-2017 parking permit, you will be able to use that for Summer parking in surface lots K, A, B, D, and L. If you need to purchase a parking permit for the Summer semester, log into your Inside Augsburg account and register your vehicle information. You will be able to select the permit type you will need and pay online, or stop by Public Safety. If you have any questions, email parking@augsburg.edu or come to Public Safety.
